Frequently Asked Questions

What is a DBE Personal Narrative?

A written statement required since October 2025 describing your individual experiences of social and economic disadvantage. It must include specific events, dates, and how discrimination affected your business or career. Race and sex are no longer presumptive — you must demonstrate disadvantage individually.

Is there an official template?

There is no single official template. Some states provide guidance forms, but most certifying agencies accept a free-form narrative. Our template provides a proven 5-section structure that covers everything agencies expect.

How long should it be?

Most successful narratives are 2-5 pages. Focus on quality and specificity — concrete examples with dates, names, and outcomes are more persuasive than vague generalizations.

Can I use this for the reevaluation?

Yes. Currently certified DBEs undergoing reevaluation under the 2025 IFR must submit a Personal Narrative. This template works for both new applications and reevaluations.
